Tip Calculator & Bill Splitter

Figure out the tip and split the check in seconds — with an option to round each share up to the next dollar.

How it's calculated

Tip = (bill − tax) × tip %. Many people tip on the pre-tax amount; leave the tax field at 0 to tip on the full bill. Each share = (bill + tip) ÷ people, optionally rounded up to the next whole dollar. Tipping customs vary; 15%–20% is common for table service in U.S. restaurants.

Questions & answers

Should I tip on the pre-tax or after-tax amount?

Either is acceptable; tipping on the pre-tax subtotal is common and slightly cheaper. Enter the tax shown on the receipt to tip on the pre-tax amount.

How much should I tip at a restaurant?

For sit-down service in the U.S., 15% to 20% is typical, with more for excellent service or large groups. Some restaurants add an automatic service charge for big parties — check the bill.
